Your Financial Privacy

At Merchants & Planters Bank, we know and understand how important protecting your financial privacy is to you. Concerns for customer privacy and confidentiality are cornerstones of banking. For these reasons, we have adopted the following privacy practices to assist you in understanding the measures we take to protect your personal and financial information.

As a customer of Merchants & Planters Bank, we recognize and respect your expectation for privacy and security for all of your financial affairs.

We collect, use and retain information about our customers only to the extent we reasonably believe that such information will be useful (and allowable by law) in administering our business or providing products, services and other opportunities that may be of interest to you. We use information to administer your records, account and funds, to comply with certain laws and regulations and to help us design and improve our products and services offered to you.

In accordance with standard practices of our industry, we have procedures in place to ensure that customer information is accurate, current and complete. We welcome customer inquiries and promptly respond to requests to update or correct customer information.

We limit access to personally identifiable information to those with a legitimate business reason for knowing such information. We train our employees to understand the importance of confidentiality and customer privacy. We take appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce employee privacy responsibilities.

We maintain appropriate security standards and procedures to guard against unauthorized access to customer information.

We do not reveal specific information about your accounts or other personally identifiable data to unaffiliated third parties for their independent use except for the exchange of information with reputable information reporting agencies to maximize the accuracy and security of such information or in the performance of bona fide corporate due diligence, unless:

  • The information is provided to help complete a customer-initiated transaction
  • The customer requests it
  • The disclosure is required by or allowed by law (subpoena, investigation of fraudulent activity, etc.)
  • The customer has been informed about the possibility of disclosure for making or similar purposes through prior communication and is given the opportunity to decline (“opt out”)

From time to time it may be necessary to contract with unaffiliated third parties to perform certain specific support services such as, but not limited to, data processing, statement preparation and mailing. These vendors and service companies agree to safeguard our confidential information about you and your products and services with us and must abide by applicable law.

In order to provide our customers with the best possible products and services, we may share certain customer transaction information and our customer experience information with affiliates of the Merchants & Planters Bank family. Be advised, in those instances where we serve in a legal fiduciary capacity, such as but not limited to, a trustee of a trust or personal representative of an estate, no customer information arising out of these relationships is shared with affiliates of Merchants & Planters Bank or with any third party.

By law, we may share other customer information such as application information, credit reports and other externally derived information (non-experience information) among our affiliates unless you direct us to the contrary as described below. We do not share any non-experience information with any non-affiliated third party for any reason other than those previously stated or otherwise specifically provided for in your account agreement.
