About Us

History

The Merchants & Planters was established in 1890, by a group of citizens who recognized Clarendon’s need for a financial institution. The first board of directors consisted of Parker C. Ewan, Isaac Halpern, H.B. Bateman, Grant Green, Jr., M.J. Manning, C.H. Davidson, Jr. and B.F. Johnson. Parker C. Ewan elected as the bank’s first president.

Throughout the early 20th century, other banks in Clarendon have come and gone. The Merchants & Planters Bank has managed to survive 2 floods, 2 world wars and the great depression to proudly serve our customers with uninterrupted service to the community and surrounding area.
